During the last two months four groups of working children from sectors Fertisa, Fortin, Isla Trinitaria and Flor de Bastion of Guayaquil Ecuador, developed a project called “Anatomía,” (Anatomy.) The emphasis of the work and sessions was to explore ourselves from the inside to the outside. To respond to sources of stimulation, to recognize our feelings and to develop subsequent art pieces.
The project begun with a series of physical activities, such as apple bobbing, blindfold drawing, litter picking and experimental painting techniques. The emphasis was placed on experienced feelings and we later developed the project exploring factors of our lives and communicating aspects of ourselves through painting and collage. We drew our inspiration from various sources including the work of Guayaquileño artist Guayasamin. We studied aboriginal art and abstract photographs, optical illusions and collage. During our exploration of the body, we had the opportunity to take photographs which later became interesting parts of the progressing artwork. After in depth discussions of our environments and our everyday lives, we decided to create a real mixture of the different elements of our work that in a wider sense reflected the very intricate and complex parts of life in the sectors of the city. A progression project is in the making to give the groups the opportunity to communicate their ideas within their communities, in the form of murals or other forms of public art. The rich and diverse pieces that are displayed within this exhibition, created during the project allows a wide scope for progression.
