In September 2006 Beyond Vision provided participatory photography projects for the children living in Naranjal, a rural area of Ecuador. The project worked closely with JUCONI and was funded by SAVE THE CHILDREN. The majority of these children are working children with difficult histories. Their work on the farms and banana plantations mean they have lost assess to education at some point. In addition their working environments exposure them to further risks to their health and development.
The photography workshops provided the children with a creative outlet and an opportunity to document their lives. With the emphasis placed on self-expression, awareness of the current situation and their potential future progress, the aim was to help build confidence and self-esteem within the group. The images presented are documentations of their environment. Within each image lies a message or story from the photographer about his or her life in a rural community.
